Project: Integral cohomology of finite p-groups (DC1) Supervisor: Bettina Eick Location: Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany |
|
I am Alexander Collins and I was born in Dublin, Ireland. I grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and then Belgrade, Serbia, where I finished high school. I completed my undergraduate studies in mathematics at the University of Cambridge, and then I finished my master's degree at the University of Belgrade. During my studies, I developed an interest in algebraic topology, as well as algebra. The topic for my master's thesis was group cohomology. Now, I am in Braunschweig, Germany, working on the DC1 project of the COGENT network, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bettina Eick. My project is to study the integral cohomology rings of p-groups, and in particular, p-groups within the same coclass family. This entails utilising homological tools to study algebraic objects. During my PhD studies, I will be traveling to Galway, Ireland, as my secondment. This will give me the opportunity to work with the researchers there, both the professors, and other doctoral students within the COGENT network. |
