Fotios Provatas

Project: Effective algorithms for space groups (DC4)

Supervisor: Bettina Eick

Location: Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany

Fotios Provatas was born and raised in Athens, Greece in 2000. Being interested not only in learning new things, but also understanding how things work, after finishing high school he proceeded to complete his BA studies in mathematics at the University of Athens where he received a double major in pure and applied mathematics. With this combined theoretical insight and applied methods, he went on to pursue his MSc in Algebra, geometry and Number Theory at Leiden University in the Netherlands, writing a master’s thesis on Quasi-Constructible Sheaves, drawing on both algorithmic and topological methods.

Fotios is now based at TU Braunschweig, Germany, on the DC4 position of the COGENT project. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Eick, he is working on algorithmic and theoretical aspects of Space Groups, aiming to answer long standing questions about them. Outside of research, Fotios enjoys reading about new things, be that mathematics or not, playing the guitar and traveling to many new and different places.
